Macedonia Members Show Community Love
Always ready to show the love of Christ by helping those in need, several members of Macedonia Baptist Church, including Missionaries Tressa Gray and Alease Williams (pictured far left), came out to show community love by volunteering with the Community Love In Action: As We Gather project. Featured in the Maryland Independent* for feeding more than 300 people, Community Love In Action is a new organization consisting of several churches in Charles County. Become A ´Year Up´ Professional
Year Up is a free, one-year, intensive training program that empowers low-income young adults to succeed in professional careers and higher education. Year Up offers:
- six months professional training in IT, Finance or Customer Service;
- six months corporate internship with a respected company; up to 24 college credits;
- weekly educational stipend throughout the program;
- and guidance and support from a staff advisor and professional mentor.
An estimated 85% of Year Up graduates are employed or attending college full-time within four months of completing the program. Those employed earn an average starting salary of $15 per hour ($30,000 per year for salaried employees). Applicants must be:
- 18-24 years old;
- a high school graduate or GED recipient;
- of low to moderate income;
- a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident or have an employment authorization card;
- available 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) for the full year of the program;
- and highly motivated to learn new technical and professional skills.
